Static cling decals are generally intended for use on windows and glass. The surface must be clean and smooth for the decal to “stick” by a light static charge. Unlike most stickers, the printed substrate doesn’t actually have any glue or adhesive.

Why Use Static Cling Decals?

The biggest benefit of a static cling decal is that it can be placed and replaced over and over again. There is no cleanup of adhesive residue. They won’t leave a mark on your window. Static cling decals are not very sticky, however. They can’t be used outside or in places where abrasion, wind or moisture may remove them. For this reason they are most often placed on the inside of windows facing outward – which requires the design to be printed in reverse. We call this reverse printing “Face Adhesive” meaning that the static part of the decal is printed on the front or face side of the decal.

Some of the most common places we see static cling decals are on car windows. They are often used for parking permits and vehicle service reminders that are placed on the upper left side corner of the windshield. Schools and universities use them for “school spirit”. Bands use them for promotion. In shop windows, you often see them used to display preferred payment options, store hours or “best of the city” awards.
